Five subtle tips to succeed in an interview:
Five subtle tips to succeed in an interview:
- Dress for the part: With the new casual dress trend, the business-suit-for-safety wisdom is not always best.
- Show up precisely 5 minutes early: I have to admit, when an interviewee shows up 15 or 20 minutes early. It results in this annoying pressure, knowing that the person is waiting for me. So why five minutes? Because that's just enough time to sign-in, catch your breath, and get yourself into the mental zone of the interview.
- Think "warmth" during the first 5 minutes: Most people go into an interview nervous, tight, and without their normal charm. If you want the interviewer to relax, you need to relax. The best way to do this is to make sure you smile early in the interview. Nothing warms a conversation more than a smile.
- Bring two copies of your resume: Many hiring managers forget to bring a resume to an interview, and you'll appear on-the-ball if you have an extra copy for them. When you hand them your resume, make sure you do not start the interview by saying "here's a new version of my resume". All that makes me think is that you're busy tuning the truth in hopes of getting interviews. (If you need help with your resume, please click this link
- Send your thank you via snail mail: If you want to get noticed, show up in their postal mailbox. While most hiring managers are getting 200-300 emails in a day (most are resumes), they are getting very little in the postal mail. It's your call whether this is a typed letter, or a hand written thank you note - just make sure it's done within 24 hours of the interview.

ARE THERE JOBS AVAILABLE?
There still are millions of jobs listed on all the top career sites. With companies currently staffing for their 2010 business plans, this is the BEST time to put your resume on ALL major career sites. Additionally the top 50 career sites are reported to be searched by 1.5 million employers and recruiters daily!
According to a recent poll by the Society for Human Resource Management, 88% of human resource professionals now rely on the Internet to fill positions open in their organizations.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Researching which sites to post to and then filling out all of their forms will take a fair amount of time. If you don't want to spend 60 hours filling out forms and researching sites, you can turn to a service called ResumeRabbit.com, which will instantly post your resume to 85 top career sites for you. They can be found at: www.resumerabbit.com
This site is easy to use, takes only 5 minutes to complete, saves you tons of time and instantly posts your resume on all the best sites like CareerBuilder, Monster, Yahoo! Hot Jobs, Job.com, Net-Temps, Dice.com, & many more.
WHY POST TO ALL THE SITES?
The answer: To be in the right places at the right times! ESPECIALLY in today's job market.
While many companies search the largest career sites, increasingly employers and recruiters are cutting costs by searching the less expensive second-tier career sites.
This means that the hiring managers and jobs are dispersed amongst a large number of career sites. And in this market, the window of opportunity for a job is a little smaller than usual, so it's important that you're where the jobs are when they're available.
DOES IT REALLY WORK?
It's a fact that most hiring managers use the internet to find their candidates. Of course, when there are more jobs available in the market, your chances are better of finding a job faster. However, if the job market is weak, then it's even more important that you give yourself a competitive advantage over others competing for the same jobs, by making sure your resume is "findable" on ALL top career sites.
